I'm too lazy for pics. If I think I need a pic for every post, I won't post much.
Not a lot is new since last week...Micah has a new friend at Ms. Rachael's, Jaden. He'll be 3 next month. I think it's really helping her adjust now that she has a playmate. She is still really ornery though...yesterday she got in BIG BIG BIG trouble because she locked Ms. Rachael out of the house! Luckily her hubs was inside, but he was sleeping. So she had to bang on his window to get him to come let her in. Poor Ms. Rachael. Then this evening Micah tried to stick her finger in a pot of boiling water on the stove! I think my heart stopped for a second. I tried to convey to her how BAD of an idea that is...hopefully she got the picture.
Tate had his 9 month check up today...all looks good except his ears. They didn't really look bad (not infected), but they still had fluid on them. His weight was 21lbs, 4oz, which is between 50 and 75th percentile. I'm not surprised, since he hasn't been eating well since his ears have been bothering him. Plus I read somewhere that breastfed babies typically slow down in their growth around this time. His height is still 90th percentile--29 1/2 inches. And of course, his head was 90th percentile as well. He is definitely growing like a weed! After that, we went to see the ENT to talk about tubes for his ears. He did okay on the hearing test, until the last, lowest pitch. He didn't hear it. The audiologist said that's pretty normal for having fluid on the ears. The Dr. said too, that since he's got fluid and has had 4 infections in 3 months that he is definitely in favor of tubes. Yes!! I'm sick of Tate not sleeping well and being on all kinds of antibiotics. That's no fun at all. The last one he was on (Augmentin), caused his reflux to worsen and diarrhea bad enough to make his little chunky bottom raw. We had to get a prescription ointment and discontinue the Augmentin halfway through. Poor kid. We are scheduled for May 11, so we'll just have to hang in there till then!
On another note, Tate and I are going to Dallas May 14-16. We got a super cheap airline ticket, and I'm stoked! Jake and Micah were gonna go too, but we will have no one to dog/house sit for us. So we decided to give Micah a Daddy-daughter weekend while Tate and I go visit Emily, Jillian, Charlotte, Amy, and Emory! Poor Tate, he'll be the only dude!
It's getting harder to keep up with my blog. I really want to try to post at least once a week. Can I do it? Only time will tell. I will just have to list these random thoughts or I'll have 50 mini-posts.
One day, Atticus was having terrible gas, and Micah said, "I smell something." I said, "Did one of those dogs toot?" She replied, "I think they did. (pause) It hurts my feelings. It makes me want to choke."
One night, while Tate was sitting in his highchair, she asked him something along the lines of, "You want this, Dude?" She was offering him puffs, I think. The 'dude' part killed me. So cute.
They love love love bath time. Here's some proof.
Tate has another ear infection, his 4th in just over 2 months. We go to the ENT next week...we were trying to avoid antibiotics until he gets tubes, but after 2 sleepless nights WITH ibuprofen and acetaminophen, we called the doctor. So another round, hopefully this is the last for a loooong time. Poor guy. He's a trooper though, he only is bothered at night; then he doesn't sleep well. So of course, neither do Mom and Dad!
Micah fell asleep on the couch one day...BEWARE: VICIOUS DOGS ATTACK SLEEPING CHILD
Cloth diapering is going well. I ordered 2 more covers and I think we'll be set when they come. Not too shabby for less than $100. I'm feeling a little silly that I didn't do it sooner. It's not hard like I thought it'd be, the laundry is not overwhelming, and it's not any grosser than disposables. I'm a little slow. Check out this cuteness!
Micah is having a hard time at her new daycare. I think she's starting to realize that she's not going back to her other 'school' and she won't get to see her friends anymore. She is really acting out at Rachael's (new daycare), and I think it's even harder since there is no one her age to play with. Right now it is just her, Tate, and Rachael's 6-month-old. But thankfully, a new 3-year-old boy will be coming starting next week. I really hope that having a playmate will ease this adjustment a little bit for her. But as far as daycares go, we are so happy that we have found Rachael! She is wonderful!!!!
I was telling Jake the other day about how some casinos in Florida have daycares in them. I know, I know, awesome!! Well, I had an idea that I should totally quit my day job for...ready?...A daycare in a...BAR! Yes!!! It could be open all night, until 10am. And you have to use the breathalizer to pick up your kid. Genius!!! Can't wait to patent that idea. I wish I had a really great picture (cause a pic would be GREAT), but I guess it'll have to wait till I'm up and running.
Another good story...Micah dropped everything the other day and ran to the potty. She said she needed to go to the doctor. I walked in there and asked her why. She said, "My tummy hurts and my feelings hurt." I figured the tummy would resolve itself quickly, as she was already doing her business, so I asked about her feelings. She said, "Yes, they hurt. But where are my feelings?" I explained that they are in her heart and make her happy and sad, etc. PRICELESS!
Okay, so, since my last post, I finished up the laundry detergent, made some all purpose cleaner (from water, vinegar, and borax), and decided to start cloth diapering Tate. I would like to mention how involved cloth diapering can become. I can see how some mommas become addicted! There are so many cute diaper covers that it's almost like another wardrobe! Whew! I'm feeling productive. I also mixed him up some leftover chicken from dinner tonight with some already pureed carrots and grean beans. It oughtta be pretty tasty, since it's lemon pepper chicken, and it was actually pretty fatty. Hey, fat's good for babies! :) Here are some pics:
Please excuse the bad art...my graphic artist husband is probably cringing...
And here are the others: 4 all-in-ones (just like a disposable, but you throw it in the wash instead of the trash), 3 pockets (have a pocket that you stuff the prefolds/inserts into for absorbency), and 2 fleece pull-on covers. All of these are used, so I'll be excited to get a new one or 2 (hopefully) someday and pick some out that I like!
This is the first baby food I've made for Tate so far...with Micah I made a TON of veggies and fruits before she was ever old enough to eat it! Things really do get pushed to the back burner on the second kiddo, dangit.
Last but not least, the homemade all-purpose cleaner. Super easy!
Wow, it's been a busy week, and it's only Wednesday. Lord, help me! I do have to report, though, that we saved enough money to pay our damn taxes. Thank you Jesus!!!!!! You pulled us through, once again. As usual!
So I had Good Friday off work, which was awesome. Jake didn't work either, which was totally awesome. I was about to jump in the shower that morning, when Micah and I had a short conversation that went something like this:
Micah: 'Mommy, are you gonna take a shower?'
Me: 'Yes.'
Micah: 'Why?'
Me: 'Cause I'm stinky.'
Micah: 'But you're always stinky.'
Dang. I guess I have an odor problem. I asked Jake if he put her up to it; he said no. We were going to go for a bike ride, but quickly dropped that idea because it was raining. So, we decided to go on a date that night. We saw "Book of Eli". I really liked it; the end had a 'Sixth Sense' kind of feel to it. However, when we got back to the kids, we found out that Tate's eye had gone from a little red and a little goopy to more red and way more goopy. Bummer. Poor kid, he looked so pitiful. So this morning, his Dr. called him in some eye drops and we are hoping for the best. We were also afraid that he had ringworm, because we noticed a spot on his face. However, within a couple of hours, the spot disappeared, so it must not have been ringworm. Thank goodness. Here are some of the pitiful pictures we took of them today, in their Easter clothes:
